It is very important to acknowledge and accept our grief. In this video (filmed in 2013), Belinda Johnston from www.ourspecialfriends.org (www.facebook.com/ourspecialfriends), a vet who specialises in bereavement advises how we can cope during these difficult times.
Belinda discusses seeking comfort from family, friends and professionals and suggests how talking and writing in journals can be beneficial to some. Is it very important during grief to look after yourself with regular meals and exercise exercise etc.
Belinda also looks at ways to create memorials such as creating a memory box, photo album, living memorial (planting a tree or bulbs), ashes in photo frames or even jewellery with clipping of fur or ashes.
Our Special Friends helps people continue to benefit from animal companionship by providing practical and emotional support during illness, bereavement or other crises.
