Watch video: How to buy a healthy puppy (and avoid puppy farmed pups)
How do you ensure you are buying a healthy puppy?
Anyone wanting to buy a new puppy is going to want to find one that is healthy, so it's useful to know what steps can be taken to try to ensure this. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, in particular, are prone to a number of health issues, so it's especially important to be well prepared before buying one. Margaret Carter, from Cavalier Matters, offers some helpful advice.
The work begins before seeing the puppies, with homework on what sort of health issues to look out for, such as hip or elbow dysplasia, eye problems or neurological problems. Any responsible breeder should be able to show evidence, such as health certificates, to demonstrate that the parents of a litter have passed the necessary health checks.
Margaret offers some invaluable advice on the sorts of things to expect in negotiations with a responsible breeder. This video is a must watch for anyone thinking of buying a puppy.
