In this dog grooming video, groomer Jo Croft (previously Hart) shows us how to clip your dog's claws (toenails), avoiding the 'quick', the section of the nail that has a blood supply.
She explains the reasons why some dogs may need their claws clipped more than others or why the front claws may need clipping more than the back She also demonstrates how you gradually introduce the feel and sound of the clippers to the dog in such a way as to enable them to feel comfortable with the idea of having their claws clipped.
To show clearly the amount of the claw that is clipped, in this video we show the clippers being used from the side so the claw is cut side-to-side, however it is usually easier to clip the claw from top to bottom so that you can see the quick more easily.
