This is a video about the dog breed Irish Setter, from the www.naturallyhappydogs.com website.
In this video, we meet the Irish Setter, also known as the 'Red Setter' or the 'Irish Red Setter'.
David and Gillian Bell have had Irish Setters since the mid seventies. Irish Setters were originally bred to work on grouse moors. They worked mainly to scent and flush game rather than retrieve game and do not naturally retrieve like other breeds such as Labradors. They are a great family dog but David feels they are more 'intelligent' than 'trainable' so need mental as well as physical exercise. They can be used as a working dog today but David feels their main appeal is their fun personality.
